Strong leadership plays a central role in determining the organization’s successful completion of short, medium, and long-term goals. The skills and professional expertise of present and future leaders, including Board and committee members, are important resources to tap, maximizing internal capabilities and enhancing community outreach.
In successful nonprofit organizations, the Board plays a central role in determining the organization’s vision and goals. To further an organization’s purposes, Board members must serve as dedicated and committed role models and spokespersons for the organization. Too often this is not well understood. The skills, resources and expertise of Board members can positively impact a nonprofit’s effectiveness, especially relating to fundraising and outreach.
The Lapin Group collaborates with client organizations to design and direct a customized Board Leadership Development Program. This program is designed to incorporate effective and important training exercises, along with:
Profiling characteristics for ideal Board members;
Developing standardized Board policies and procedures;
Identifying potential leaders in an effort to expand, strengthen, and diversify
the Board and leadership; and
Preparing current and prospective Board members for the multi-faceted
leadership roles and responsibilities they will undertake.
The Lapin Group, together with executive leadership, will identify and recruit key leaders locally and nationally who could play a positive role in framing the vision for the organization’s future, and in working together to articulate it, advocate for it, and achieve it.
A dedicated group of leaders is the key to overall campaign and fundraising success. The Lapin Group provides comprehensive training, coaching, and direction to existing and new leadership and offers hands-on guidance to ensure that fundraising goals are well-understood and achievable.
During a client engagement, The Lapin Group designs and Implements customized Leadership Training Workshops. These sessions give participants the technical knowledge necessary to increase comfort in their ability to secure major gifts, and build confidence in their capability to succeed. In addition, The Lapin Group organizes periodic phone conferences and in-person meetings to provide further guidance and to manage the entire volunteer fundraising process.
Staff and Board Retreats
Sound organizational structure and quality leadership are the building blocks of a vigorous, stable, and accountable nonprofit that will attract significant donor support. An organization’s daily operations – its programs, services, volunteer activities, and public relations – are driven by a shared vision held collectively by its members. Each of these functional areas contributes to an organization’s ability to fulfill its purpose and meet its mission.
During Staff and Board Retreats, The Lapin Group conducts a thorough assessment of an organization’s infrastructure, identifying and subsequently addressing any unique opportunities or challenges. For many organizations, such analysis is a critical but often overlooked step when beginning a significant fundraising, leadership development, or programming initiative.
The Lapin Group guides efforts to expand, identify, recruit, and strengthen organizational leadership though customized Staff and Board Retreats. We provide ongoing and targeted training to help leaders become more effective advocates and increase their comfort level with the fundraising process.
The Lapin Group makes recommendations and conducts sessions, as necessary,

Leadership Development Workshops
The Lapin Group offers Fundraising Workshops to organizations to train their most passionate advocates to become leaders, capable of requesting and closing gifts of significance. We provide direction, coaching and guiding them as they develop into leaders. The Lapin Group’s Fundraising Skills Training Workshops include:
Fundraising training sessions, tutorials, and other necessary meetings, including role-playing for volunteer fundraising leaders and workers;
Ongoing counsel in-person and by phone and/or email to ensure that volunteers are confident in their particular tasks and set goals during the duration of a specified campaign; and
Preparation of written materials necessary for effective leadership, including a customized Fundraising Leadership Guide, a specific “how to” manual that will describe long-term tasks and walk volunteer fundraising leaders through the steps of how to successfully secure charitable gifts for their organization.
This customized Fundraising Leadership Guide is utilized to supplement the workshops led by The Lapin Group for current and prospective fundraising leaders. These sessions provide participants with the technical knowledge and a greater degree of comfort in their ability to approach the task as well as confidence in their capability to succeed.
